Habemus Papam Leo XIV

“Peace be with all of you!”

Newly elected Pope Leo XIV, Robert Prevost arrives on the main central loggia balcony of the St Peter’s Basilica for the first time, after the cardinals ended the conclave, in The Vatican.

“Dearest brothers and sisters, this is the first greeting of the Risen Christ, the good shepherd who gave his life for God’s flock.  I too would like this greeting of peace to enter your heart, to reach your families, to all people, wherever they are, to all peoples to the whole earth.  Peace be with you!”

Born in Chicago and educated at Villanova University, Pope Leo is the first American pope. He is a man of the world, speaking five languages, he spent over 20 years in Peru as a missionary, teacher, and ultimately archbishop.

Prayer For Pope LEO XIV

Lord, source of eternal life and truth, give to your shepherd a spirit of courage and right judgment, a spirit of knowledge and love. By governing with fidelity those entrusted to his care, may he, as successor to the Apostle Peter and Vicar of Christ, build your Church into a sacrament of unity, love and peace for all the world.  Amen.
