A First-Hand Perspective on Being Unhoused

Seniors are now the fast growing segment of the homeless in the Bay Area.  Recently, Catholic Charities expanded our reach to individuals transitioning out of homelessness.  One hardworking couple, Jim and Sherry, lived their whole lives in the Bay Area, often on houseboats.  However, after their houseboat was criminally damaged beyond repair, they lived in an encampment and struggled to find affordable housing.  Now in their 70’s and living in affordable senior housing, thy are grateful for ongoing support from their Catholic Charities care manager, who is helping them return to stability and manage health issues resulting from their time on the streets.  Learn more in their interview, encouraging us to look beyond the stereotypes of homelessness.
