Giovanni celebrates a life-changing milestone after receiving support from Catholic Charities East Bay on his immigration journey.
Giovanni came to Catholic Charities East Bay seeking help with his adjustment of status, and the opportunity to fully step into the future he had worked so hard to build. With guidance from William, our Know Your Rights Coordinator, who provided a thorough consultation and steady support throughout the process, Giovanni was able to move forward with clarity and confidence.
After arriving in the United States from Mexico as a young child, Giovanni grew up determined to make the most of every opportunity. Like many in our community, he did not qualify for DACA, leaving him without lawful status despite years of hard work and achievement.
Still, he excelled in school, earned a degree in biochemistry engineering, and went on to pursue a master’s in Cell and Molecular Biology at San Francisco State University, where he began research focused on cancer treatment. Without immigration status, however, his ability to fully participate in this critical work was limited and ultimately put on hold.
With the help of Catholic Charities East Bay, Giovanni was able to apply for and receive his green card, a milestone that has changed everything. Today, he can fully step into his role as a researcher, collaborate with fellow bioengineers, and continue work that could one day save lives.
