Henry came to the United States from El Salvador seeking safety and a chance to rebuild his life. To do that, he contacted Catholic Charities East Bay to apply for his permanent residency (green card) as soon as he was eligible.

Looking ahead, Henry set his sights on an even bigger goal: becoming a U.S. citizen, which would be possible five years after achieving his green card.
Knowing the process would require dedication, he began studying for the citizenship exam right away, working to improve his English and prepare himself for success. Once more, he found support at Catholic Charities East Bay, where our Immigration Legal Services team helped guide him through each step of the journey.
At the end of 2025, Henry proudly became a citizen of the United States.
His story is one of perseverance, preparation, and hope—and a reminder of what’s possible when people are supported with compassion and expert guidance.
