Volunteer Expectations

- Fluency in English; additional language skills such as Spanish, Korean, or Vietnamese are highly valued.
- Completion of all required volunteer onboarding forms.
- Ability to commit to volunteering at least once or twice per year.

Position Summary: Our Community Event Team Volunteer Opportunities allow you to sign up for volunteer projects as you are available. These projects happen on a variety of days and times throughout the year, flexing with the time of the year and the needs of the Organization.
We host three main events each year; the Golf Tournament, Gala and Joy Bells, which rely on volunteer support.
Essential Responsibilities:
- The Special Event Day Volunteers assist on the event day and help with set-up, gifts, crowd flow management, and tearing down tables and tents.
- Assist with translations. calls, handwritten notes, etc.
- You should arrive on time and follow instructions.
- Strong communication skills: verbal and writing
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office
Requirements:
- Must complete a LiveScan background check, paid by Catholic Charities.
- Fluent in English and other languages such as Spanish, Korean, or Vietnamese

Position Summary:
Assists the Development department with administrative tasks. This includes but is not limited to copying, filing, and making follow-up phone calls and, additionally, assisting in helping with Fundraising Events. As such, a volunteer in this capacity must be friendly, positive, professional, detail-oriented, and organized.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assist Development with administrative tasks within the department: filing, mailing, and hand-addressing cards.
- Strong communication skills: verbal and writing.
- Keep a clean and organized office.
- Support the team with additional duties as required, such as name tags, etc.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Requirements:

Immigration Legal Services Admin Support
Position Title: Administrative Volunteer Legal Department (All Locations)
Reports To: Ingrid Laterza, Legal Services Program Manager

Position Summary: Catholic Charities East Bay is seeking volunteers to work under attorneys and DOJ accredited representatives to assist with administrative tasks and provide basic information to clients. At Catholic Charities, licensed attorneys offer legal counseling to low-income immigrants and refugees. The services we provide are:
- Family Based Visa Petitions

Qualifications/Requirements:
- A time commitment of at least 4 hours per week for at least 3 months
- Attention to detail, excellent organization, and time management skills
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish is preferred
- A passion for public interest
- Candidates who have worked in an office environment, particularly legal, preferred
- Professional technology skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, database software
- Ability to scan, edit and create .PDF files and experience with shared folders

Catholic Charities East Bay is seeking volunteer attorneys to provide support to our Pro Bono Project for Unaccompanied Children and Families in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. At Catholic Charities, you will work closely with experienced immigration attorneys to offer legal aid to low-income immigrant youth. Our Pro Bono Program for unaccompanied minors provides guidance and mentorship. You will work directly with children to help them build their cases, gain valuable courtroom experience, and develop expertise in a unique area of law. No immigration experience is necessary. While working in our pro bono program our staff will:
- Screen client cases and take declarations
- Provide detailed training for the specific procedures required
- Provide updated and relevant materials and briefs
- Collaborate on strategic case development
- Provide ongoing mentorship
- Hybrid positions also available

Position Summary:
Our Immigration Legal Services Department has provided relief for immigrants for over 35 years. With a full staff of five attorneys, five Department of Justice accredited representatives, paralegals, law students, support staff, and volunteers in Oakland, Concord, and Richmond, CCEB is one of the largest providers of immigration legal services for low-income families in the East Bay. This is a perfect opportunity for anyone considering a future career in immigration law and/or wanting to assist the immigrant community. The Immigration Legal Internship at CCEB is unpaid and may only be completed for academic credit at a community college or university.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Support attorneys with the direct representation of unaccompanied children by preparing various legal filings such as motions, affidavits, briefs, and applications for relief (including asylum).
- Draft and submit petitions for Special Immigration Juvenile Status (SIJS), U-visas, T-visas, and work authorization.
- Prepare for hearings or interviews before immigration court and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
- Schedule and conduct legal screenings for prospective child clients, adult sponsors, and other agencies.
- Draft case summaries and routine client correspondences.
- Stay abreast of current trends in immigration and family law, as well as other federal laws affecting unaccompanied children.
- Conduct research on country conditions and draft memoranda of law.
- Maintain the case data management system through accurate data entry, tracking court hearing dates, deadlines, case activities, client communications, and referrals.
Requirements:
- A time commitment of at least 10-20 hours per week – for at least 3-6 months is required. o Hybrid role (remote/office required)
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Intermediate experience with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), and adaptability to immigration case management software required
- Candidates with experience working in an office environment (particularly legal) preferred.
- Candidates with a passion for social justice and immigration law are highly encouraged to apply.

Position Summary:
The Facilities Volunteer will perform light maintenance tasks and other work-related duties as assigned. This person will be supervised by the Facilities Coordinator.
Tasks will include but not limited to:
- Maintaining cleanliness of outdoor planters
- Watering of indoor plants every other week
- Inventory and refill copy paper
- Inventory and restock janitorial and breakroom supplies
- Preventative maintenance and similar activities to maintain clean, safe, inviting facilities
- Perform handyman tasks such as replace light bulbs, assemble or disassemble small fixtures, etc.
Requirements:
- Must complete a LiveScan background check paid for by Catholic Charities
- Must complete and online training in recognizing and reporting abuse
- Must volunteer at least 6-8 hours per week for 4 months
- Must have a valid Driver’s License
- Can carry/lift up to 20 lbs. of materials
- Ability to walk or stand for periods of time in performing duties
Most volunteer opportunities are available Monday to Thursday, between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
