Nain Lopez to Receive a Friend of Adult Education Award

February 9, 2012 - Nain Lopez, who wears two hats, one as the Manager of the B-Mat Program, the other as Project ACCESS Coordinator, received an Excellence Award in West Contra Costa Adult Education titled: Friend of Adult Education. The award is given by the California Council of Adult Education (CCAE), Contra Costa Chapter. CCAE is the largest and oldest professional organization dedicated to advancing adult education in California A lunch and award ceremony will be held on February 9, 2012, in Walnut Creek.

Nain understands well the immigrant experience. She came from Mexico, with a degree in psychology, in 2003. She enrolled in ESL courses at Contra Costa College and volunteered with AmeriCorps in the Fruitvale Elementary After School Program, becoming a Regional supervisor in 2006. In 2010 she was hired by CCEB as Project BMAT manager.

A mother of two, she and her husband balance their professional and personal lives, sustained perhaps by Nain's dedication to working with other immigrants. Nain says: “I dreamed having a position in the non-profit sector where I would be able to support other immigrants in pursuing a better career, attain better paying jobs, and to connect them with resources which can provide them help.”
